Boogie

Boogie has just arrived from Florida. He has been to the vets, where he had what, we believe were stress related seizures. He was in an adoption kennel in FL for a month and showed no signs of seizures. He is now on pheno at his foster home. In a month, he will start weaning him off his meds. 9/2014 MEDICAL UPATE: He has recently been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy.

5/8/2015 MEDICAL UPDATE: GOOD NEWS!! Boogie has successfully been weaned off phenol and is seizure free using potassium bromide only. This has been a long process and Boogie is now available for adoption. He will need to be on this medication for life. It's @ $50 for 3 months supply. It's a compounded liquid and he willing eats it in his food. His personality is very laid back. Not much seems to bother him. He loves people and other larger dogs. He has had little exposure to small dogs. While he no longer tries to catch the neighbor cats, it's unclear if he could live with any. His foster home does not have any small animals.

Charlie

Charlie arrived from Florida last week. He is in his foster home now and learning about retirement. Charlie is very friendly and seems to get along well with other dogs. He is still learning about cats. He loves to go for car rides and walks. He doesn't seem to mind the snow or cold... which is a good thing in this area. Ty (or Tyler)

Ty (or Tyler) made the trip north with his new friend Missy. He has also been to the vets for neutering and shots and is currently with a foster family. Ty is a very quiet 2 year old and would probably like a quiet setting to call home. He was a bit stressed at Petco with all the noise from the shopping carts in the parking lot. Ty rides well in the car, but still hasn't figured out how to get in by himself. He only spent 2 days with cats, but he should do fine with dog savvy cats. Spencer

Spencer has just been returned to our group. His adopter has become very ill and could no longer care for him. Don't let his pre-mature graying fool you, he is a very spry and young acting 9 year old. Missy

Missy has just made the trip north to begin her retirement. She has been to the vets for spaying and shots and is now in foster care learning to be a family pet. Missy is a tiny girl, only 50 pounds. She loves to go for a ride in the car and seems to like everyone she meets. We are still working on the cat issue, but that should settle itself in a short while. Rufus

Rufus has returned to our group. He will be going to the vets for a senior exam and will have a dental soon. Rufus is a tad underweight, but seems to be eating well at his foster home. Hopefully with his exam we will be able to rule out any medical issues. Rufus may need to be adopted by someone who is home a lot or has another dog for company. He is doing fine with the cats and another GH at his foster home. Even though his age is listed at 11, it is reported that he acts very young for his age. Rufus loves leash walks and car rides. Faith

Faith has recently made the trek north to start an early retirement. A colorful girl, she just turned 2, but still acts like a puppy. Faith has a lot of energy and should be adopted by someone with a decent sized fenced yard or can take her to a dog park a few times a week. Faith will also need an experienced dog person, as she will try to rule the roost if allowed. Faith should do well with calm, dog savvy cats. Gator - Adopted!

UPDATE! Gator has settled down nicely in the past few weeks. He loves riding in the car and making new friends. He is also a swimmer, loving both fresh and salt water. Gator has been to the dog park several times in the past few weeks and gets along with creatures great and small. He should do fine in a home with small dogs and confidant, dog savvy cats. Gator has been to a couple of M&G's and has done well with the commotion and attention. He's not overly comfortable with very small children. Gator is ready for adoption. Drake - Adopted!

Drake has just arrived from Florida. He spent a few months in a foster home there recovering from a broken leg. GPA-CNHC financed his surgery and agreed to bring him into our program when he was ready for adoption. He lived with cats and a small dog in his Florida foster home. As you will notice from his pictures, does well with children. He is a very sweet dog and ready for retirement. Update Nov. 13: After taking x-rays, Drake will need additional surgery to stabilize his leg. He will be available for adoption early 2014.

Wine Rater - Adopted!

WJS Black Rose

Rose is a happy girl that needs to be in a house where people are home most of the time. She is a tiny girl, with a small bladder and will need to go out every 5 or 6 hours to relieve herself. She is not able to 'hold it' for a normal work day. Her perfect home would be with someone who is retired; works from home or has family members working opposite shifts.

Update: Rose has been doing better recently and has been able to 'hold it' for a normal work day uncrated. There is a chance that the crate might have been part of the issue. Please consider giving Rose a chance for a fur-ever home.

I have just made the trip from Florida where I have been racing. I'm ready for retirement after 151 races. I've been to the vet and am now in a foster home. I wasn't happy at the vets and a bit stressed, but I have to say my first day at my foster home has put me in a better mood. I know they have checked off 'no small kids' but I think they will change their minds on that shortly. I've been cock roaching after only a few hours. My foster brothers are very calm and supportive. Diamond

Diamond is a VERY happy; VERY outgoing; VERY active boy. His personality is more like a lab than a GH. It's been hard to get some pictures of him, when he loose he's always moving. Although the first week or so he was very interested in getting the cat (more the cats fault than his) and you can see they are good friends now. He actually seems to like getting his face washed. Boc's Peter Pan

Peter retired from racing with a broken hock, however it will not affect him in any way from being a wonderful family friend. He had surgery to repair his injury and is now living in his foster home.

12/4/2011 Update: Peter's hock is healing nicely and the hard cast has been removed. He will need to be leashed walked for another 4 weeks and then should be good as new!

Anarose - Adopted!

Anarose has settled in nicely at her foster home. She is very quiet and mellow and cat safe! As a retired racing GH and retired broodmom, Rose is ready to start her 3rd career as a professional pet. She had broken hock that didn't heal well and has some weakness in that leg. She would do best with someone that doesn't have a fenced yard and will leash walk her. She has been started on joint supplements and they seem to of helped her a bit already. She probably should be on a joint supplement permanently. Kumpany - Adopted!

Kumpany (no, that is not a typo, that's the correct spelling!) is a very happy, bouncy 2 1/2 year old male. He has been to the vets this week and is now settling in at his foster home. Scout - Adopted

Scout is a wonderful 6 year old fellow who came back into our program after being in a home for 3 years. He is currently living in a foster home with another greyhound, and settling in just fine. Scout is a very loving greyhound who wants to be with people. He loves to play with toys, climbs stairs without a second thought and absolutely enjoys his walks. Scout is on a special diet for his sensitive tummy but is doing fine with the food and schedule he is on so don’t let that be a deterrent. Hossman - Adopted!

Hossman is a sweet Fawn boy. He loves to go for walks, rides and running in the backyard. Out of nowhere he will pick up a toy and just toss it around the house. (He sounds like an elephant when he does.) He is a beautiful fellow who would love to find a loving forever home. He is definitely a couch potato and would rather be on the couch or chair (someplace soft and comfy) than be on the floor. Hossman would prefer not to have a home with cats or very small dogs. He is a special hound who suffers from a seizure disorder, and is currently on medication that is controlling his seizures very well. He has been in foster care for some time and they have really helped him find the correct medication and dosage to get his seizures under control. He will need to go to a home committed to giving him his medication on schedule. This medication is not expensive (under $10 for a three month supply, see below for more information) so please do not let this disorder or need for medication distract your interest in this handsome boy.

Below is an update from his foster home:
Hossman's medicines cost under $10.00 for a three month supply. We do not have him on any special diet, but he tends to eat anything that he can smell on the counter, in the sink, out of our coffee cups...you get the idea. He has had only a couple of seizures this past year. If there is a drastic change in his environment then he will probably have one. We were away overnight and someone stayed at the house, and he had one then. There is really nothing you can do other than just make sure there are no other dogs around him when he does have a seizure and keep him from hurting himself. When it is over they are very disoriented and will pace the house and drink lots of water. It is best to keep a log of his seizures so the vet knows what is going on.

He loves to lie on the couch and will not move unless you move him. He prefers a chair to the floor. When he is let out in our back yard, he will run and pounce the other dogs. I have to keep an eye on him so he does not get too rough.

Watching him play with toys is hysterical. He will throw them everywhere, and yes, he thinks our shoes are his toys. I have never seen him chew up anything. He crates fine as long as there is a very comfy quilt in it.

Ramses - Adopted!

PMP Chong a.k.a Ramses is a recent return due to a change in family circumstances. He gets along with other dogs. Likes kids especially teens and adolescents, he "roos" hello when first meeting any. He is energetic and likes toys. He knows some basic commands—sit, stay, and gives his paw. He crates well. Presently still working on his social skills with cats. He would really like to play with them, but is a bit too energetic for their liking at present. He would be a great addition to an active family.

Nitro - Adopted!

Nitro has been in his new foster home for 3 weeks now. He was originally labeled a spook, but that's not entirely accurate. When off leash in the house or in a fenced yard, he will stay away from people. Of his own choice he prefers to stay in the kennel room. When in a fenced area he will stay away from people and will move if you head in his direction. However once the leash is attached he is a completely different dog. He LOVES going for walks. Without a fenced yard in his new foster home, he has had to face the world. Nothing seems to faze him. He has ignored the traffic;paid little attention to the small yappy dogs running their fence line when we walk buy; the horses when they walk by the dog stall in the barn and has shown little interest in the wild turkeys in the yard. We have met snow machines without incident and today the neighbors shooting guns, no reaction. Completely cat safe as well. Jumps into the van, lays down and not a peep out of him. When no one is looking he will sneak into the living room and bring stuffies to the kennels and the ones that make special noise will be destroyed. He will come from his kennel when called and now that he has learned our walk routine, will come out on his own when it's time. He even barked at me last week when I wasn't getting ready fast enough. He may always be a bit of a recluse, but otherwise he will be a very nice dog for someone willing to let him be the dog he wants to be. It would be great if someone adopts him and continues walking him as he loves the outside world.

Update: Nitro has been in his new foster home for 6 months now. Now that he is more comfortable, he is spending more time out of his kennel (his choice). He has been playing with (and destroying) stuffies. He is more comfortable in public situations. Sometimes he will still shake for a few minutes but it passes. Nitro still does not seek but will accept attention from strangers. It's better if they just walk up, stand beside him and pat him. If they make a big deal of it, so will he. Nitro has taught himself to play fetch by watching my other GH. He has learned the drop it command. Nitro made a new friend this weekend. A little girl was intent on walking him and he did very well. He could possibly be with younger children that were quite and will give him his space when he needs it.

Angie - Adopted!

Angie is a recent return due to her owners illness and was unable to care for her any longer. She is settling in at her foster home with a pack of other GH's. At her initial placement she was thought to not be cat safe and not comfortable around small children. She will be evaluated again with cats and children. She was a bit overweight when she arrived and was tested for any thyroid issues. She is now on thyroid meds and is beginning to slim down. She loves exploring the yard and smuggling on the couch.

Sparrow - Adopted!

Sparrow is a very affectionate and playful 2-year old female. She is doing very well in her foster home and loves people and stuffies. Boots is a very sweet 7 year old male who was returned through no fault of his own. His adoptive parent was no longer able to care for him and sadly had to say goodbye. Boots is new to the group and currently settling in with his foster family. He is good with children and gets along with other dogs. We will update you on Boots soon. Jett is a beautiful 8 year old fellow who was returned to us through no fault of his own. He is settling in to his foster home but would really love to have a family to call his own. Ash is a sweet girl who was returned to the group through no fault of her own. Her family was heartbroken to have to say goodbye and said she is a wonderful dog. My kennel Owner really liked car racing. So he decided to call me Daytuna. Sounds a little like Daytona doesn't it? But my name is now Charlie.
